Do you grant outside Kansas City?
Our funding emphasis is on programs and services in the Greater Kansas City area. Requests will only be considered from organizations serving the Greater Kansas City area.

What are the primary populations which you fund?
The Fund favors projects that provide educational opportunities, build entrepreneurial skills, and cultivate and foster girls’ leadership.  Proposals from new as well as traditional organizations that primarily serve girls will be considered. Applicants must serve low-income girls.

How big are the grants?
The SkillBuilders Fund is looking to make grants that have impact and can make a difference in the success of a program. The grants generally range in size from $15,000 to $25,000 and will rarely exceed $50,000.

What is the duration of the grants?
Funds should be used within 12 months of issue. Multi-year grants will not be considered.

What requests are ineligible?
In general, the SkillBuilders Fund does not consider grants for annual giving campaigns, capital campaigns, debt reduction, endowments, fundraising events and sponsorships, political activities or religious purposes or programs that require religious participation.

Are Multi-Year Grants considered?
Multi-year grants will not be considered. However, current grantees are welcome to submit grant applications for the upcoming grant year while they still have a grant in progress.

What is the review process?
Board members and staff will evaluate the proposals and site visits may be conducted. All eligible applications recommended for funding by the Grants Committee will be reviewed and voted on by the Board of Directors.

Are smaller grant requests and requests for funding outside your Primary Areas of Interest considered?
While our grant guidelines will govern a majority of the distributions, the Directors will remain open to new and innovative ideas that impact women and girls from not-for-profit organizations of all types and sizes. However, these applications are accepted by solicitation only.
